Kenneth Thomas McManus, born on June 17, 1951, in Portsmouth, Virginia, passed away peacefully in the same town he called home on March 22, 2025, at the age of 73. Known for his loyalty, Kenneth lived a life full of hard work and spontaneous moments.
Kenneth attended Churchland High and Tidewater Community College but built a respected career as a longshoreman with Local 970, where he was admired for his strong work ethic and commitment to his colleagues. Beyond his professional life, Kenneth found joy in the simple pleasures of life—he was a lover of music, playing pool, being outdoors, politics and spending time at the beach.
A man of many colors, Kenneth was known as a generous soul and a devoted jokester who could always bring laughter to those around him. He had a special affinity for animals and took great pride in his gardening and landscaping.
Kenneth was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Peggy Hamilton McManus and Kenneth McManus; his brothers, Charles McManus and John "Duck" McManus; and his sister, Sue Davis. He leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories with his surviving family: his devoted wife, Janet McManus; his loving daughter, April McManus; and his adored nieces and nephews, Peggy Seaman, Jimmy Thomas, Fletcher Davis, Melissa White, John McManus, and Chelsea McManus.
In this time of loss, Kenneth's family and friends find comfort in the memories of his laughter, kindness, and the indelible mark he left on all who knew him. A graveside service to honor and celebrate Kenneth’s life will be on Sunday, April 6, 2025 at 1:00 pm at Forest Lawn Cemetery, 8100 Granby St, Norfolk, VA.
May his soul rest in peace, forever cherished and missed. In lieu of flowers his family asks that you make donations to the local SPCA.
