

Mrs. Ly Barsell, 82, passed away on Monday, December 7, 2020 in Chesapeake, VA. Ly was born in Vietnam to the late Hòe Hữu Nguyễn and Quỳ Thị Nguyễn. Ly is also preceded in death by her husband, Donald Barsell who passed away in 2009. She is cherished in memory by her son, Tri and his wife, Trang; three grandchildren, Jeremy, Thy and MinhThy, and families of older sister-in-law, older brother, younger brother-in-law, 2 younger sisters, 3 younger brothers.
Ly was born in Central Vietnam in 1938. She graduated from the well-known Gia Long High School, Saigon, Vietnam. She served in the military of the Republic of Vietnam and held several teaching roles to the children of army service members. She also taught French at a private school.
Ly later worked for the Joint United States Public Affairs Office at the US Embassy in Saigon, Vietnam.
In 1969, Ly came to the US and worked as a language teacher for the US Army Language Institute in Fort Bragg, NC where she taught Vietnamese to US Army officers before they were deployed in Vietnam.
After several years working in the banking industry, Ly retired early and moved to the sunshine state Florida where she enjoyed gardening, growing beautiful flowers, and cooking.
In 1997, she moved to Virginia to spend time with her only son and her grandchildren until she passed. She really enjoyed taking care her grandchildren and together they created many valuable memories.
Now, Mrs. Ly Barsell has completed her earthly journey.
She continues to be loved by her family members and friends.
