Maria earned her degree in business from Far Eastern University, laying the foundation for a life marked by dedication, resilience, and service. She later married the love of her life, Thomas William Renfro, on April 5, 1967. Together, they shared 59 wonderful years of marriage built on love, partnership, and unwavering devotion.
After beginning their life together, Maria and Tom settled in Virginia Beach, where she became a proud U.S. citizen and Navy wife in 1969. She quickly became a cherished presence in her community, known for her generosity, warmth, and deep commitment to serving others. Not only was she the most favored class mom, but she was also a gifted gardener, and ceramics artist.
Maria was actively involved in the Filipino community and played an instrumental role in helping establish the Philippine Cultural Center. She also served as a treasurer and advisor for the UFA, dedicating her time and talents to causes that strengthened and uplifted those around her. Her many contributions were recognized through numerous volunteer awards, including a commendation from the Mayor of Virginia Beach for her work supporting social services and advancing improvements within the foster care system.
She was known for her exceptional cooking, often spending hours in the kitchen baking and preparing wonderful recipes from many cultures. Through every carefully crafted dish, she expressed her love, offering the most scrumptious bites to those around her. Maria also possessed a beautiful and distinctive sense of style. Whether dressed for a special occasion or in her everyday life, Maria had a way of making everything she wore feel meaningful, leaving a lasting impression on all who knew her.
Beyond her many accomplishments, Maria will be remembered most for her deep faith and love of the Lord, her vibrant spirit, and her extraordinary ability to bring people together.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Thomas William Renfro; her sons, Mike and Mark Renfro; her niece, Connie and Bill McClanan; her grandchildren, Erica, Van, and Jack; and her great-grandson, Alek.
Maria’s legacy of love, faith, wisdom, generosity, and community will live on in the hearts of all whose lives she touched. Her family finds comfort in knowing she is reunited with loved ones who have gone before her and, most importantly, at peace in the Kingdom of Heaven.
