To me he will always be my Daddy Chief. My heart is heavy to know that I'll not hear his laugh, his crazy jokes, his wise advise, or get that hug that could heal or encourage. He and Mama came into my life when I was 2 months old. So I've only known unconditional love, understanding and acceptance. Through every milestone, accomplishments, ceremonies and day to day activities; he was there. He was always there for me. He was my biggest cheerleader and I'm so blessed that God    graced him in my life. My best friend, my dad.

There was never a time in my life that did not include my Uncle Marvin...not in person...we live so far away from each other that the " Porch sittin' times" were rare.
But he was always There. In the shadows..because that was his way. The strength and unconditional love felt through a bond that will never break. The richness of his voice over the phone. The corny jokes meant to make me smile. The fierce love for his family...and for a little Red Headed Girl who knows that the bond we had was Special.
Eternal. And uniquely Ours.

It is with sadness yet happy memories that we mourn the loss of a wonderful friend and neighbor. Marvin was always one to greet us with a comment about ordering the weather, when the truth was that he brought sunshine to everyone he met. We will deeply miss Marvin and share our heartfelt sympathies with Edie and the rest of the family.  The Haug Family

Marvin's older brother Earl was my father, who passed away in 2006. Earl died of a cancer very similar to what Marvin was fighting - and the data suggest that Marvin was beating his cancer. He and I chatted a couple of weeks ago - he was positive (as always) but genuinely optimistic that he had navigated the worst of the illness.

Much like my father was, Marvin was my hero. Marvin was a good man - possessed of strong values grounded in faith and family. From my earliest memories of Marvin, through my last conversation with him, he never failed to express his love for me and for my sister Jennifer. Also, from my earliest memories until the last, he made me laugh. How can he not be my hero when every single interaction was filled with love and laughter! 

Marvin and I also bonded through the Navy. From the time I enlisted, through my Academy and Commissioned years, he was there for me with encouragement and advise. His validation of me as a naval professional -- the validation of a 31 year Master Chief - meant so much to me.

My father loved Marvin, Willis, Milton and Margaret dearly. Maybe it was the generation, the technology, or maybe it was just the nature of the Jones siblings, but there didn't seem to be a lot of communication once the kids grew up, but that didn't seem to diminish the depth of the love between them. With Marvin's passing - the last of the Jones Boys, it feels like a chapter is over. Margaret - please know I love you very much.

Marvin's love for Edie was enduring. I can never remember them being apart. Every time I called Marvin, he would make sure he passed the phone to Edie so we could catch up. There's a beauty to an enduring relationship like that of Marvin and Edie. Edie - please know I love you very much.

We Napier's are so sorry for Marvin's passing. He has been a great friend, a prized neighbor for over two decades, and a man of great humor, intelligence and faithfulness. 
We prized his Naval service and his having been a Chief (Master Chief), which, having been in the Navy as well, we knew of the value of those who form great foundations of leadership and professionalism for all sailors, officer and enlisted. 
Marvin was an exemplary and faithful husband and caregiver to his wife, Edie, and family. 
 It was always a pleasure to see him, have a laugh, gather an opinion, or some of his extensive wisdom about an issue or problem. 
He will be sorely missed but we trust completely that he is with the Lord, and that we will see him again...sooner than we may expect! 
God bless Miss Edie and the whole family...may your grief pass with peace and the many wonderful memories of many years and happier times. 

Mr. Marvin, you will be missed by all, but maybe nobody more then that "Wild Animal" that still wanders over looking for you.  Nala lays there and waits for her best friend to come out.  Tho I understand, I'm still heart broken. As you now serve on the staff of the Supreme Commander, be easy on them Master Chief.  Rest your Oars, We have the Watch. RIP my brother. 

Even tho we were different genders, we have been joined at the hip since birth.  I was born about 5 mins before you. You have never let me forget you were my baby brother. Even when you called and had to leave a message you always started with "this is your baby brother".  When I called you you always answered with , " Merry Christmas". You left home at 17 for you long stint in the Navy.  
You will always be a part of me.  We have lost our parents, and four brothers.
This is one of the hardest times of my life having to give you up..
We will meet again.
You have left good memories.

We are very sorry for your loss.  Marvin was a genuinely good person.  Admired how he cared for his dear wife with tenderness and kindness.  Enjoyed his great sense of humor and interesting stories.  He always was ready to lend a helping hand to everyone.   Marv entertained our son over 40 years ago and I couldn't have done it without his help and Miss Edie caring for Justin!  I'm so glad that Justin and his family visited with Marv and Miss Edie a few years ago when they were in town.   I cherish that time we had together. First of all I wish to extend my sincere condolences to Marvin's wife Eddie, son Ron and the rest of their family. Marvin was the Mr. Personality of our neighborhood;  lending a hand whenever someone would ask his advice or assistance.  Heavens knows he certainly spent enough time working on my generator.  I never knew Marvin when we were on active duty but that service was a bond between us and we shared many a sea story and our politics of the day.  Marvin was a man of many talents, always had a smile or a kind word and my family and I will certainly miss him; miss his wisdom and innate kindness. 
I have the watch, You are relieved Sir. May you always have Fair Winds and Following Seas.

Mr. Marvin was my neighbor for many years. I lived next door, and it was my responsibility to keep my yard in shape. But I was a lazy kid, so sometimes when I let the grass get too long, I would see Mr. Marvin plodding steadily across both of our yards in the heavy heat of summer. 

I would rush out and plead with him to let me finish the job. He would wave me off, or he would oblige and let me do my duty. But either way, he never had an angry word or a "get off your lazy tail and do your job." No, he knew I already felt that on the inside.    

Mr. Marvin was always ready to help, to give, to laugh. He always welcomed me warmly, with a smile and a hug. I love him and will miss him.

Nadine and my condolences to the family on the loss of Marvin.  My life will not be the same without him. His jokes, stories and generally upbeat attitude always made me appreciate life.

Uncle Marv was always a character. Always had a joke to make you laugh,  he knew a lot about  numerous things and liked to let you know it.  But most of all was that big hug he'd always give you, and sometimes it would even hurt, but even so if it did, it just showed how much he really loved you.  His heart was as big as that ocean he served his country for all those years.  For his service for his country, I can't thank him enough.  For just being my uncle marv,  I cant tell him now just how much he was truly love by me and my family but in my heart and his, he always did know.  I'll see him again one day.  He, mom, and dad on the far side banks of Jordan waiving me home.  LOVE YOU UNCLE MARV.
