Norfolk – Marvin Dale Wilson, 90, passed away with his sons holding his hands on Feb. 5, 2019. He was born in Lowell, MA on June 15, 1928 to the late Harold and Eva Wilson. Dad was the oldest of 5 children, and was raised in a catholic orphanage under difficult circumstances. This led dad to join the navy at an early age. He proudly served his country, retiring as master chief after 20 years of service. He then continued a career as a high school mathematics teacher with Norfolk Public schools, retiring in 1990.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn L. Wilson; brothers, Ronnie Wilson, Harold Wilson, and Allan Wilson; sister, Joyce Wilson. Left to cherish his memory are his sons, Michael A. Wilson and wife Jean, and Stephen M. Wilson; grandchildren, Laura Wilson, Jessica Wilson, and Matthew Wilson.
Upon retirement, he enjoyed bowling, camping, creating an extensive movie collection, having breakfast with the boys on weekends, and growing grapes to make his own award winning wines. He had a wall full of 1st and 2nd place certificates, and many bowling trophies to match. Dad was a quiet man with an infectious smile and northern demeanor and will be dearly missed by all.
He received truly exceptional care by the loving staff at Brookdale Memory Care until the final days of his life. A wonderful group that always treated dad like family. A special thanks to his care partner, Kafe. What an exceptional person she is. He couldn’t have asked for better. Also a special thanks to Medi Hospice, and the kind and compassionate care provide by Suky, his care worker.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tues. Feb. 12, 2019 at Smith & Williams Funeral Home, 4889 Princess Anne Rd, Virginia Beach, with full military honors.
