Mary Jane Hendricks
May 4, 1934 – December 5, 2023

On December 5, 2023, Mary Jane Peregoy Hendricks departed this world to be united with her Savior and reunited with family and friends in heaven. Mary Jane was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 30 years, Thomas L. Hendricks; her parents, James and Mary Peregoy; her grandson, Tommy Hendricks; her sister, Freda Hurt; and her brother Marvin Peregoy.
Left to cherish her memory are her son Rev. Lee Hendricks and his children Carolyn Hendricks, Christina Pegram (Andy), and Joy Hendricks; her son Mike Hendricks, his wife Sharon and their son Zac; six great grandchildren; and her sister Becky Barnett.
Mary Jane was born in Montgomery County, Virginia and lived with her parents in Pennsylvania during the early years of the great depression before returning to Christiansburg, Virginia where she finished her secondary education. After graduating from Bluefield College, she lived in Norfolk, Virginia, where she taught elementary school and served as principal of Victory Christian School. In 1981 she and Tommy moved to Winston Salem, North Carolina. Mary Jane loved music and was an accomplished pianist and beloved piano teacher. During her lifetime Mary Jane faithfully served the Lord in Cambria Baptist Church (Christiansburg), Fellowship Baptist Church (Norfolk), Robinhood Road Baptist Church (Winston Salem) and Calvary Baptist Church (Winston Salem).
Mary Jane's family will receive visitors on Thursday, December 14, 2023, from 12 noon to 1:30 p.m. at Smith and Williams Funeral Home, Princess Anne Chapel. A celebratory funeral service will be held immediately after visitation and interment will follow at Rosewood Memorial Park.
