

Born in Chase City, Virginia, she was the oldest child of Antha Devata and Lawrence Horace Lenhart. She was a registered nurse and homemaker. Nira was a sixty year member of Beta Sigma Phi sorority, a member of the Elizabeth River Women’s Club, and active in the DePaul Hospital Women’s Auxiliary. She was a volunteer for the original Norfolk Meals-on-Wheels program and the American Cancer Society. She was an active member of the Episcopal Church of the Ascension and a member of the Altar Guild for many years. Nira was a forty-eight year breast cancer survivor.
She was predeceased by Douglas D. Dunn, Jr., her husband of fifty-two years. Nira is survived by five children: Mary Catherine Dunn (Jerry Douglas McIntyre,) the Reverend D. Donald Dunn III (Mary Slater Dunn,) Steven Hoyle Dunn (Thomas Austin Burkhardt,) George Michael Dunn and Stacey Frances Dunn. She is also survived by three grandchildren; Douglas Donald Dunn IV, Brandon Douglas McIntyre and Kelly McIntyre Ewart, and great-grandchild Ashur Kenneth McIntyre.
A memorial service will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 14 in the Episcopal Church of the Ascension by the Reverend David W. Davenport. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Episcopal Church of the Ascension, 405 Talbot Hall Road, Norfolk, Va. 23505.
