Penelope N. Noel Hill

January 13, 1925February 27, 2010
VIRGINIA BEACH - Our mother, Penelope Noel Hill, passed away peacefully on Feb. 27, 2010 after a courageous fight against multiple systemic atrophy. She was predeceased by her father, James Roy Noel Sr.; her mother, Zella Gillam; her brother, James Roy Noel Jr.; and a brother-in-law, Dr. Benton Williams. Penny was born and raised in Big Stone Gap, Va., and came to this area in 1950 to raise her family. She was a charter member of Community United Methodist Church and retired from the Virginia Beach City School System after more than 30 years of service. Our mother was a gentle woman who had a smile and a kind word for everyone. She was a friend to all that knew her. The many hours of service to her church and her community did not go unnoticed. In her later years she enjoyed her grandchildren, reading, watching political shows, Virginia Tech football, and especially bingo with the women of Our Lady of Perpetual Help. The family would like to express its sincere appreciation to the staff of Our Lady of Perpetual Help for their kind and loving care and also to her caregivers Verna, Aggie and Veta. Survivors include her daughter, Linda Noel Hill; her sons, Steven Mark Hill and wife Marcia, and James Maury Hill and wife Francie, all of Virginia Beach; her grandchildren, Amanda, Julia, Jonathan, Martin, Matt and C.J. and her grandpup Luci; her two sisters, Geraldine Oldashi and husband David of Nashville, Tenn., and Elizabeth Williams of Statesville, N.C. The viewing will be held Tuesday, March 2, at 10 a.m. at Community United Methodist Church with a memorial to follow at 11 a.m. There will be a private burial ceremony at Rosewood Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Community United Methodist Church, 1072 Old Kempsville Road, Virginia Beach, VA 23464. We loved our mother very much and her spirit will remain with us forever. Please share your love and condolences with the family at www.smithandwilliams kempsville.com.
