Phillip Ray Barnes

Phillip Ray Barnes, affectionately known as “Lil Ray” was born on August 30, 1948 in Wilson County, NC to the late Ella Ruth Barnes-Gray. On Monday, September 28th, 2020, God in his infallible wisdom called Phillip from labor to enter into Eternal Rest. Phillip received his early childhood education in the public school system of Rocky Mount, NC. Phillip left Rocky Mount and moved to NY in the mid-60s. He worked in a kitchen, he then moved to Long Island and he drove sanitation trucks. He was a truck driver at heart, and he collected many Ford Thunderbirds. After working many years, five years ago he moved to Virginia Beach, Virginia. There he started driving sand trucks. No matter what Phillip did in life, he always had a smile on his face and was willing to help anyone. He had so much love in his heart. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving and devoted wife Kim Barnes; his brother, Robert Barnes; his sons, Timmy Barnes, Phillip Ray Barnes, Jr., and Kenneth Daniels; Daughters, Tara Ryan and Trugina Hyatt; Step-son, Sean Godfrey; Step-daughters, April Davis, Lisa Edwards and Nicole Godfrey. Phillip is also survived by several grandchildren, greatgrandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives.
