Mr. Gibbs was born on the Eastern Shore of Virginia. He was preceded in death by his parents Harry R. Gibbs and Maggie Richardson Gibbs and a son, Mark Bryan Gibbs. He retired from the U.S. Navy after twenty-one years of service as a Chief Petty Officer and from The City Of Virginia Beach as a landscape supervisor. He graduated from Norfolk Botanical Garden’s Horticulture School.
Survivors include his wife of fifty-three years, Alice Anne Gibbs, a son Christopher Gibbs both of Virginia Beach, VA; a sister Lillian Doughty of Milford, DE; a sister in law Billye Powers and husband Richard of Chincoteague, VA, and a brother-in-law Sonny Spencer of Cape Charles, VA, numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, November 2, 2011 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Smith & Williams Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, 1 p.m. at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.
