Richard H. Smith Sr.

Richard H. Smith, Sr., 91, passed away peacefully March 23, 2010.

Mr. Smith was born June 23, 1918 to the late Cleveland and Levenia Smith in Norfolk, VA. He was the owner of R. H. Smith Awning and Roofing, in Virginia Beach for many years. Mr. Smith was a longtime member of Tidewater Church of the Nazarene. Richard was an avid outdoors man who loved to fish, hunt, and raise a garden, especially his favorite food Collard Greens. He also enjoyed spending time with his family especially his grandchildren. He will always be remembered as a loving father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. He will be deeply missed. He is preceded in death by his wife Helen J. Smith; sister, Syble Smith; and two brothers, Curtis and Emmett Smith.

Left to cherish his memory is his son, Richard H. Smith, Jr.; brother, Wiley J. Smith; a sister, Rita Midgett; three grandchildren: Mark Smith, Kimberly Murray Brunelle; and Kelly Gualdoni; eight great-grandchildren: Halie Murray, Grace Murray, Brooke Murray, Sydney Smith, Alex Smith, Mason Smith, Julian Gualdoni, Leighton Gualdoni.

The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 pm, Saturday, March 27, 2010 at Smith and Williams Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel. A celebration of life will be held at 4:00 pm, Sunday, March 28, 2010 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to any charity in the name of Richard H.
