

Virginia Beach-Robert A Bastidas, Sr., 68, of Virginia Beach, VA., was called to heaven on August 4, 2011. He passed peacefully in his sleep. Bob was born in Ecuador on June 4, 1943 and immigrated with his family to the United States as a teenager. He graduated from Aviation High School located in the New York City borough of Queens. He married his one true Love on June 27, 1965.
After High School, Bob joined the US Navy as an Aviation Mechanic where he spent most of his career at sea. He crossed the equator many times logging many nautical miles and survived several tours in Vietnam, eventually retiring after 27 years as a Chief. He then began working for Contel/Verizon and retired a second time after 14 years of faithful service. His most recent career, which he loved, was a Greeter at Wal-Mart on Nimmo Parkway.
Bob is survived by his wife of 46 years, Lucy Bastidas and his 5 Children; Rhonda Bastidas-Tisue(Lanny), Bobby Bastidas, Tony Bastidas(Erin), Ricky Bastidas, and Christina Bastidas Smith(Dennis). Bob is also survived by his Mother, Blanca Bastidas; his Sisters, Carmen Marin, Susan Velez, and Lisa Liotta; and his Brothers, Jimmy Bastidas, Edward Bastidas, and Ricky Bastidas; 9 Grandchildren, 6 Great Grandchildren, and many extended family members and friends also survive him.
A Wake will be held on 8-8-2011 from 6 to 8pm at Smith and Williams Funeral Home, 4889 Princess Anne Rd. A Funeral Service will be held on 8-9-2011 at 1pm at Rock Church, 640 Kempsville Rd. Burial will follow immediately at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens located at 6309 E. VA Beach Blvd.
