Robert H. Davis

He was born in Plymouth, PA on May 9, 1924 to parents, Margarite and Hugh Davis. He attended Plymouth High School with oldest brother. Melvin and younger sister, Mary. After high school, Bob enlisted in the Navy and served his country during World War II. He qualified on the USS Haddock (SS-231) in 1944 and was stationed at Pearl Harbor. The USS Haddock (SS-231) was the first submarine equipped with SJ Radar and was used to seek out and destroy enemy ships in darkness or reduced visibility.

Bob retired from the Navy as a Master Chief Petty Officer in 1963. He continued to serve his country traveling around the world to submarine bases as a US Government Civil Servant. He retired in 1986 after 22 years of dedicated service. He was a proud member of the FRA, Branch 5, The Old Crows of Tidewater, and of the US Submarine Veterans, World War II.

He was predeceased by his parents, siblings, and only son, Robert James.

He is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Dorothy; three step-daughters; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

The Davis family would like to thank the kind people at Heritage Hall Nursing Home for the gentle care and love they gave to Bob and to them during his final weeks there.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 11, 2011 at the Smith and Williams Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel.
