

Sarah Pollard Cordell, 66, passed away January 25, 2011, after a short and valiant battle with cancer. Sarah, a native of Portsmouth, resided in Virginia Beach for more than twenty-five years. She worked in administrative positions for several businesses including Moon Engineering and for the last several years she managed the office of her husband's business, Builders' Construction Services. A life-long lover of animals especially cats and dogs, she spent many enjoyable hours volunteering at the Virginia Beach SPCA and developed many close friends with both the volunteers and staff members.
Sarah is survived by her loving husband, Richard Cordell; and they shared their home with many pets over the years that were her close companions. Other survivors include two sisters, Cynthia Pollard Lyon and husband, Jim of Atlanta, Georgia; Claudia Pollard Van Arsdale and husband, Bruce of Radford, Virginia; and brother, Sidney Fisher Pollard, III of Portsmouth, Virginia. She also has two step-daughters, Alicia Cordell Brown and Jessica Cordell, both of Portland, Oregon; and five nieces, Christy McGlothlin, Mary Beth Pollard, Amy Clinton, Cynthia Bell and Sydney Van Arsdale; and three grandnieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Sarah Pretlow Pollard and Sidney Fisher Pollard, Jr.
A celebration of Sarah's life will be held on Monday, January 31, 2011, 11:00 a.m. at Smith & Williams Funeral Home, 4889 Princess Anne Road, Virginia Beach, VA, 23462.
