Shirley Mae Barkley was born to Robert and Margaret Lupo in Norfolk, Virginia on November 26, 1932. She responded to the Holy Spirit’s calling of the Gospel of Jesus Christ in 1944 while living in Macon, Georgia where she was baptized in the Mulberry Street United Methodist Church. Shirley matured in the church, became a Godly woman, endured various joys and heartaches in this world for ninety-two years. All the while she knew she would, one day, be united with her Savior and spend an eternity with Him in the presence of our Heavenly Father. Shirley raised three children who, in answer to her continuous prayers, were saved by grace through faith in Jesus Christ.
It was her prayer that all who knew her would also find the peace and joy that comes through the sanctification of life after salvation. She left this hand-written note in a Bible on her shelf:
“I look forward to being home
together in Heaven – God bless
each one of you. I pray always
for each of us to be together Soon.
God Bless us one and All.”
