Shirley Ann Stortini, passed away peacefully on October 23, 2026 at the age of 77 surround by loved ones. She was the true heart of our family; a devoted mother, cherished grandmother, a proud Navy wife, talented quilter, and the life long high school sweetheart of her beloved husband, Louis, with whom she shared 56 beautiful years of marriage.
Her love story with Louis began in the hallways of Franklin D. Roosevelt High School in Poughkeepsie, NY. As high school sweethearts, their bond became the foundation for a lifetime of shared dreams.
Shirley navigated the unique challenges of military life with grace and strength, holding down the home front through decades of deployments. She had a unique talent of turning a house into a warm loving home, raising her children with unwavering strength and grace while Louis served at sea.
Above all, she lived entirely for her children and grandchildren. They were her greatest joy, her proudest achievement and the center of her universe. She never missed a game, a performance, or an opportunity to offer unconditional support. Her selflessness knew no bounds, she always put the needs of others ahead of her own, asking for nothing in return but the happiness of those she loved.
When she wasn’t caring for her family, Shirley could almost always be found in her sewing room. Her hands were rarely still, spending countless hours cutting, piecing and stitching together fabrics creating beautiful quilts. Each quilt created was a labor of her love, gifted to family, friends, and newborns, leaving behind a tangible legacy of warmth that will comfort her loved ones for generations to come. She has finished her final quilt, and her hands are finally at rest.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Louis P Stortini Jr.; her children, Veronica Cartwright (Chris), Daniella Rosete (Rodil); her grandchildren, Aubreigh Cupp (Zane), Emma Rosete, Caleb Cartwright, Aiden Cartwright, Addison Rosete; her sisters, Barbara Gavin, Terri Zittel and a great grandson coming soon. She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Daniel and Flora Wilson and sister, Diana Wilson.
You have always been our sunshine and forever more will be.
The cremains of our loved one will remain with family until the future passing of Louis, at which time they will be laid to rest together at Albert G Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery in Suffolk, VA and a joint memorial service will be held.
