Tim was predeceased by his parents and his sister Elizabeth Schmidt.
Tim was born on June 22, 1952, in Albert Lea, Minnesota, to parents Kermit Marvin Roisen and Marian Ruth Roisen (née Miller). He spent his youth in the Midwest and in Madagascar, where his father served as a missionary.
In 1972, Tim enlisted in the US Army and served for three years as a medical corpsman. Tim's military service included tours in South Korea and Panama. During this time, he met Christa Parks, his first wife and the mother of his children.
After the honorable completion of his military service, Tim earned his Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy at Virginia Commonwealth University. Tim relished his career in pharmacy. He enjoyed helping people.
In the 1980s, Tim worked as an executive with a pharmaceutical company providing services to nursing homes. He gave up that career to spend more time with his children and transitioned to a retail pharmacist role. Tim served as President of the Virginia Pharmacy Association from 1992 to 1993. He was also named Virginia's pharmacist of the year. Tim enjoyed mentoring new pharmacists and pharmacy technicians, and he always took time to help patients with their questions and concerns about medications. Tim retired in 2017 after working for both independent and nationally recognized pharmacy companies.
Tim took an active role in his sons’ youth and development. He served many years in leadership positions with Boy Scout Pack 234 and Venture Crew 91 in the Hampton Roads area.
This spirit of service continued until the very last year of his life, in which Tim hosted a Lego-building club for a small group of home-schooled children. Tim firmly believed in creating opportunities for kids to learn and grow.
In 2008, Tim met and courted Nancy. They married in 2010. Tim and Nancy enjoyed traveling and spending time together. Nancy remained steadfast at Tim's side through a variety of health challenges. Tim's family is hosting a remembrance of his life on Saturday, October 19, from 1pm to 4pm at Smith & Williams Funeral Home at 4889 Princess Anne Road in Virginia Beach.
The family will also host a service on November 30 in Des Moines, Iowa, then head up to Emmons, MN, for a gathering with additional family and friends and interment at Oaklawn Cemetery. Details to be confirmed later.
