

Tsuruko “Sue” Fein, Beloved Mother, Grandmother, and friend to many passed away on January 7th, 2022. Tsuruko Kurokawa Fein, known as “Sue” to friends, was born on August 2nd, 1928 in Kyoto, Japan. Sue graduated from Doshisha Women’s College in Kyoto, Japan before meeting her husband, Col. Louis Isaac Fein. They embarked on worldly travels together residing in many different countries before moving to Virginia Beach, Virginia.
To friends and neighbors, Sue was soft-spoken and courteous. To her family, she was a forward thinker, strong-willed and resilient. She shared her love of food, travel, music, and theatrical arts with everyone around her. Sue taught her children and grandchildren the importance of being determined, patient, and considerate. She will continue to be an inspiration for all future generations.
Sue was a proud military wife, a chartered member of the Retired Marine Wives Social Club, an avid gardener, classical pianist, member of the Little Creek Amphibious Base choir, bridge player, and community volunteer. She had an infectious passion for life, a playful sense of humor and will be deeply missed by her friends, family, and all who know her.
Sue is survived by her son, Sonichiro Tanaka, Daughter-in-law Shigeko Tanaka, Grandson Yoshiro Tanaka, and Granddaughter Rachel Verret Domingue (wife of Brent Domingue). Sue is predeceased by her husband, Louis Fein, and daughter, Beth Fein Verret (wife of Errol Verret). The family would also like to thank the Buen and Berglund families for the love, support, and kindness they've shown over the years.
A celebration of life will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, January 19th at Smith and Williams Funeral Home. Sue will be laid to her final rest at Arlington Cemetery in Washington, D.C. next to her husband Col. Louis Isaac Fein. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the American Cancer Society as those closest to her were taken by this awful disease.
