William & Joan McConnell

William Torence McConnell, 86, passed away on September 12, 2015. He was born on March 6, 1929 to the late Charles McConnell and Florence Sturdavant McConnell and was preceded in death by his wife Joan M. McConnell, daughter Patricia F. Hicks and a granddaughter Daneil.

Mr. McConnell retired from the U.S. Navy as a Chief Petty Officer with thirty years of service. He attained the rank of Second Class Master Diver and was a member of US Naval Fleet Reserve and Knights of Columbus of the 4th Degree.

Survivors include six children, W. Ray McConnell, Dan O. McConnell and wife Marian, Kathleen C. Wolff and husband Kenneth, William C. McConnell and wife Meg, Margaret Pavey and husband Keith, John T. McConnell and wife Amy; ten grandchildren Nikita, Samantha, Daniel, Mathew, Zachary, Samuel, Christopher, Chase, Ethan and Molly; four great grandchildren Dalvin, Asean, Christian and Sean.

A Celebration of Mr. & Mrs. McConnell’s life together will be held on Saturday, Sept. 26, 2:00 p.m. at Smith & Williams Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel. A reception will follow in the funeral home. Inurnment will be at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
