Our beloved Mom, Grandma, and Great Grandma, Betty Vollmer was at home surrounded by her daughters, when she passed peacefully into Heaven on June 16, 2022. Betty was born to Bryan and Grace Miller in Lemoore, CA on April 22, 1923. She graduated from Lemoore High School and Visalia Junior College (now COS). It was there that she met Edmund Vollmer and they were married for 71 years until Ed's passing in 2016. When Ed returned from serving in the Marine Corp, they moved to Sanger, CA where Ed was an accountant. In 1951 Ed was called back into the Marines and Betty, Ed and their two daughters, Kim and Kay moved to Arlington, VA and then to San Francisco. When Ed was released from the Service, the family came to Visalia where Ed became a CPA. It was here their third daughter, Jody, was born.
Mom was a "Stay at Home Mom" and was ALWAYS there when we needed her!!! When we got older, she became a Real Estate Broker. Mom often said that people only knew her as Ed Vollmer's wife or Grace Miller's daughter, but she truly was so much more. Mom was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Visalia for 69 years and volunteered there often. She was an infamous joke teller and everyone always wanted to hear her tell a story. If we couldn't spell a word, all we had to do was ask Mom, because she could spell anything. She was an avid reader and loved to do crossword puzzles. From age 83 to 97, Mom was a fixture at Lifestyles going there 3 days a week to ride an exercise bike and do the weight machines. Betty LOVED animals! In addition to the dogs that we always had, we grew up with a menagerie of pets. In later years, she also raised turtles having 9 and sometimes even babies in her privacy garden. Mom was also the amazing woman behind Dad.
Betty and Ed loved to travel. Their cruises and trips took them down the Mississippi, Ohio and Kentucky Rivers and to Hawaii, Scandinavia, Russia, Alaska, London, France, Spain, Portugal, Gibraltar, Casa Blanca, Venice, Greek Isles, Mexico, Panama Canal, and Costa Rica. Several of these cruises were enjoyed with the High Sierra Jazz Band. They also truly loved the relaxing atmosphere of the ocean and spending time at their home in Cayucos with family and friends.
Betty was preceeded to Heaven by her Husband Ed Vollmer, her Daughter Kay Morrison and her Parents. She is survived by her Daughters Kim Bolin of Elko, NV and Jody Vollmer (Eddie) of San Luis Obispo; Grandchildren Michelle Heddinger of San Diego, Jennifer Belcher of Visalia, Bryan Morrison of Visalia, Kevin (Kristen) Morrison of Visalia, Mallory (Mark) Christenson of Brookings, OR and John Jr. and Scott Morrison of Missouri; Great Grandkids Charlotte and Bella Heddinger, Olivia and Everly Morrison and Ella Christenson and Son-in-law John Morrison.
Every morning in Mom's last year she loved singing the song "This Is The Day That The Lord Has Made" with Kim and/or Jody and listening as they read a devotion to her to start her day. We were blessed to have Mom with us for 99 wonderful years!!!
A Celebration of Betty's Life will be held on Tuesday, July 26, 2022 at 12:00 noon at the Miller Memorial Chapel 1120 W. Goshen Ave. in Visalia. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to your favorite charity in Mom's memory.
