Charles E. Beaird, “Charlie”, 78, went to be with his Lord on August 2, 2016 surrounded by his family in his home. Charlie was born on August 18, 1937 to Martin and Evie Beaird in Tulare, California. He was the 8th born of 11 children.
At the young age of 15, Charlie went to work at Exeter Food Locker as a meat cutter to help support his family. By the time he was 17, he had signed up to serve in the U.S. Air Force as a Cook, where he served for 5 years.
Charlie married the love of his life, Margaret London in 1957 and they had 4 children together. He held his children close to his heart and taught them the importance of loving others, giving away a smile, and working hard.
In 1965, he began working at Save Mor Market in Ivanhoe as a butcher, later becoming the Store Manager and then Owner. When he sold the store and retired, he and Margaret spent the summer as Campground hosts in the Sequoia National Park. He briefly came out of retirement to work at Miller Memorial Chapel as a Funeral Assistant until 2012. After his second retirement from Miller Memorial, he found a new passion in woodworking. He would build anything from full size baby cradles to doll cradles, rocking horses to toy cars and picnic tables. He enjoyed creating treasures he could give away.
Charlie and Margaret were members of Calvary Worship Center for many years. As a board member, a pillar of the church, he loved and served his church as much as he could. Charlie was a strong man of faith and a living example of Matthew 22:37-39; He loved God with all his heart, and genuinely loved the people around him.
“Glad you got to see me” or “Glad you got to meet me” are the words most people will remember about the wonderful man that many called friend. But while Charlie may be remembered for his famous words, he will be cherished by his family for his wonderful heart, contagious smile, and his desire to make everyone laugh.
He was preceded in death by his son, Michael Beaird. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Margaret Beaird; his son, Robert Beaird; his daughters, Lori (Mark ) Anderson and Karen (Daniel) Anderson; 6 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; his sisters, Alice Hunt and Evelyn (Virgil) Goodwin. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews and friends.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 7, 2016 from 4 – 7 p.m. at Miller Memorial Chapel, 1120 W. Goshen Avenue in Visalia.
