Clark Manion Springer was born to Henry Clark Springer and Madolin Manion Springer in Garrett, Indiana on May 22, 1925. He departed this life in Visalia, California, to begin another pain free life on March 15, 2018 at the age of 92.
Clark attended elementary school in Butler, Indiana and Howe Military School in Howe, Indiana, graduating January 1943. He attended Indiana University graduating in 1950 with a master’s degree in business administration. While at Indiana University Clark belonged to Sigma Chi Sorority & Fraternity and Delta Sigma PI, a business honorary fraternity. He was also a lifelong member of the Benevolent Fraternity of Elks.
In the fall of 1943, after attending Indiana University for two semesters, Clark was inducted into the Navy. After two years he joined the U.S. Naval Reserve and was released in 1947 as Lieutenant Commander.
Upon graduation from Indiana University, Clark joined Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company in Akron, Ohio from 1950-1955. From 1955-1966 he was executive vice president for a large midwestern manufacturer of ski & sports clothing until the company was dissolved. Clark retired in 1987 after working for the Federal Government with his last position as a claims representative for the Social Security Administration.
Clark was active in veteran’s affairs serving as an officer in the American Legion; served as post commander with a year as district commander while a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Additionally, he was involved with Military Officers Association of America serving as the local president for two years.
Clark was predeceased by his son Rodney Clark Springer in 2015; his stepson, John Edward Kempfer in 2004; his sister Nancy Haywood in 1986 and his parents.
He is survived by his wife Wanda, stepdaughter Cindy Hill (Bill), two grandchildren, Erich Esswein (Ashley) and Leanne Sublett (Wallace) and two great-grandchildren, Madysen and Trenton Sublett.
