Darrell was born on October 24, 1934 to Les and Della Stotesbery of Graceville, Minnesota. He was one of 10 siblings and a twin to his brother Jerry. The family lived on their farm. Darrell and his siblings attended the little country school until he continued his education at Clinton High School. In the winter of his senior year, he was involved in a serious toboggan accident. He suffered a broken back that left him paralyzed. The doctors said that he may never walk or even survive his injuries. Prayers were said by family and friends for his recovery. Six months later, with help, Darrell was able to walk and attend his high school graduation.
After graduation he moved to California and worked to TCI and Gehl, selling heavy equipment to dealers. His region covered seven states and he became their number one salesman. He had a gift of meeting and making conversation with people no matter of age. Darrell met his wife, Marcia, at his dealer in Ontario, California. He made a good sale that day! They were married for 52 years and were blessed with two children: their daughter, Lori, and son, Troy. During their school years, Darrell enjoyed attending and supporting them in their school events and sports. In later years, he was very proud of their careers and success. Lori works in the medical fiend and Troy is a firefighter paramedic.
When Darrell's grandsons, Tanner, Tyler, Kody and Kaden, would visit their papa, his eyes would light up and he would have a smile from ear-to-ear. The grandkids hated his big, wet kisses! Darrell also looked forward to visits with his son, Mark, from Arizona, and his twin brother, Jerry, from Minnesota. They enjoyed going to Denny's for coffee and talking with each other.
Darrell's years spent in Visalia were good years. He liked singing in the church choir, camping with friends at Pismo, and camping at Twin Lakes with family. He also enjoyed going to Fresno State football games and, also, cheering on the Minnesota Vikings. He was very handy. He landscaped his yards, made wood projects, and even built his own workshop. He never let his handicap hold him back. He lived a full, successful life until his later years when his physical condition declined. In time, he wasn't able to walk. When the time came that he needed a nursing care facility, he received that care at Westgate Gardens.
In December, he contracted Covid-19, but, as the fighter he was, he didn't let that get him down. Darrell ended up having complications from Alzheimer's and passed away on January 28, 2021. Darrell is free of pain. He's walking and celebrating with family and friends who went before him. He was met with open arms and love from them, all at the gates of Heaven. One day, we will meet again and you will greet us with your smile, big wet kisses, and say welcome home.
Whether known as Darrell, Dad, or Papa, he will be missed but always in our hearts. We love you. Love Always, Your Family.
