Sept 7, 1943 - Nov 1, 2014
On November 1, 2014, Donald Floyd “Don” Jones died in Visalia California. Don was born in Texarkana, Arkansas on September, 7 1943, second child and only son of Roland Ben Jones and Edith May (Simmons). His early child hood was spent in McNab Arkansas and Shreveport Louisiana. In 1957, after the death of his father, the family moved to Southern California, where Don continued his high school education. Their first residence was in a beach community where Don became an avid beach recreation fan. 1n 1958 Edith remarried and the family relocated to the Wilmington area where Don graduated.
After Graduation Don entered the military forces and served several years in France. Upon his return from the service Don married Sharon Gilmore. Don and Judy then returned to Shreveport, LA, where he joined his uncle, William Jones, in his plumbing business. They soon had a daughter Kasey to join their small family. Don spent numerous years developing his plumbing skills through the journeyman to expert and design levels. Eventually, Don returned to the Southern California area and went to work for the Gas Company. He married his second wife Ginger Jones , and they soon had a son Christopher. Later Don left the Southern California region and transferred to Visalia still with the Gas Company. Here he worked with the planning and design elements of the Gas Company coordinating many of the major developments in the central valley counties.
In June 1998, Don retired from the Gas Company. In September 19, 1998, Don married Judy Hutchins and moved from Visalia to their ranch in the hills above Exeter. Don and Judy had both recently retired from the SCGC, and enjoyed their many hobbies and the ever present ranch management together. They became “road travelers” with their travel trailer and spent many days on off times visiting parks, trails, and landmarks. Don and he and Judy moved to their current home in Tulare.
Don enjoyed golf, Hunting, home & gardening, travel, volunteerism, and all the kids. Don enjoyed being a parent and a grandfather devoting time to the grand children and sharing that devotion with all kids whether or not his grandchildren. He enjoyed his friends and neighbors and was continually involved in helping to fix anything he could and help wherever asked. In retirement Don spent many volunteer hours as senior counselor and group service coordinator with the AA and other public service organizations in the Tulare / Visalia area.
