Donald Gene Matthews

Don Gene Matthews, passed October 9, 2017, in Visalia, Ca. He was born April 13, 1933, in Visalia to Dewey and Anapearl Benc Matthews. Don enlisted in the US Army Reserve for three years and later served in the Navy Reserves for seven years.

Don belonged to the American Legion and the Men of the Hearts. In his youth his hobbies were to hunt for deer and fish.

Don worked with the Tulare County Sherriff Department and then later for the California Department of Forestry. He was an Inspector for Tulare County and also the State of California. Don was a craftsman and loved to build custom homes. He retired as a General Contractor and an Electrician.

Don is survived by his wife Eleanor Matthews, six children, sixteen grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren and eight great great grandchildren. Don was preceded in death by his parents Dewey and Anapearl Matthews, his brother Warren Matthews and son Jeffery.

Don’s family and friends will gather for a Memorial Service at Gateway Church 1100 S Sowell St, Visalia, CA at 11:00 am on Saturday, October 21, 2017.
