Edward Zahigian

Edward Zahigian, “Jr.”, 80, was born in San Francisco, CA on July 15, 1942, and passed on February 16, 2023, in Visalia, CA. Born to Edward and Rose Zahigian, he grew up in Easton, CA, attending Washington Union High School. After high school, Ed received his bachelor’s degree in Political Science and completed his thesis toward a master’s degree at Fresno State.

In 1972, Ed married the love of his life, Madlen Aslan. Madlen, his wife of more than 50 years, described Ed as simply the most compassionate and caring person she knew. Ed was a prolific and passionate writer, with many interests and causes to which he dedicated his time. His many extensive collections included coins, stamps, and books which he lovingly obtained over the years. Close to Ed’s heart was his dedication to many Armenian philanthropic charities.

Ed will be remembered as a writer, with pride for his country. In high school, he served as Sgt. Major in the ROTC. In college, he was a member of the Young Republicans and the CSU Rally Club. Socially, Ed enjoyed many activities with the Armenian Church Youth Organization, and he also served on the building committees for St. Paul Armenian Church in Fresno and St. Garabed Armenian Apostolic Church of the Desert, in Palm Desert. After their move to southern California, Ed lectured and was published on several topics including the Bible, Armenian, Greek, Egyptian, and Roman history. He and Madlen also shared much joy and laughter writing a series of books for children. Edward’s son, Danny, appreciated his father’s tremendous influence on his life.

Edward is preceded in death by his parents Edward and Rose Zahigian. He is survived by his wife Madlen, son Danny, his brother Richard Zahigian and his wife Elaine, his sister Norma Alexanian and her husband George, brothers-in-law Sarkis and David Aslan, grandson Danny Zahigian, Jr., and many nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, March 9, 2023, at 3:00-7:00 pm at Miller Memorial Chapel located at 1120 West Goshen Avenue, Visalia, CA 93291.

A church service will be held on Friday, March 10, 2023, at 10:30 am at St. Mary Armenian Apostolic Church located at 14395 Ave. 384, Yettem, CA 93670.

Interment will be held at Visalia Public Cemetery at 1:30pm located at 1300 West Goshen Avenue, Visalia, CA 93291.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Mary Armenian Apostolic Church or your favorite charity.
