Dear Marie & family,

I was so happy to have met your grandma Alice & to have been able to help her with a little bit of her family's genealogy history.  She was a pleasure to meet and speak with.

" Love Great Grandmother Alice" was on every card she sent for every holiday whether it be Christmas or Valentine's Day. Even if I did something bad, my grandma always saw the good in me & always replied with, "it's okay, as long as you learn from it & don't do it again" "everyone makes mistakes". My grandma was a kind hearted person who saw the good in everyone. I love my grandma with all my heart. & I am proud & honored to be able to be called her grandson. I remember when we went to Oregon & we went to this donut shop that came on man vs food. Grandma got the biggest donut & it was as big as her face. Another thing I will NEVER forget. Is when we went to Disneyland & she got on the California screamer at California adventures. I remember screaming my head off & hearing not one peep from grandma. We looked at the picture on the way out & saw grandma with no emotion. We asked her how she liked it. & all she said was "yeah, it was fun" like it was no big deal. My grandma was so strong. She has been through so many tragedies & still managed to get through them. My grandma is a great woman to look up too. I do & will forever. She lives on through me, through all of her children, grandchildren, & great grandchildren. We all hold a piece of her within us. She will never be completely gone. 
I know she is looking down upon us smiling. She loves us just as much as we love her.
On behalf of my family I would like to thank Miller Memorial Chapel for providing us with excellent care throughout my grandmothers services and for helping us with whatever we needed.
I miss you grandma. & when I have my children I will make sure they know who your are. I love you. This is not goodbye it is simply a see you later.

My grandma Alice always loved to be around us grandchildren. I remember when my grandma Sylvia took my siblings and grandma Alice to watch a movie and grandma Alice loved the movie and had smiles throughout the whole movie. Another time Cassandra and grandma Alice were playing a board game and told Cassandra she didn't want to play if she was going to cheat again. Every holiday she would send us cards with money telling us she loves us. I will not forget the wonderful things my grandma did for me and everyone else in her lifetime. I love and miss you grandma.

My Great-grandma Alice was special to me. She was like no other person id ever seen before. Though she had many grandchildren and great-grandchildren she managed to please them all every holiday sending us cards with money. I remember the Thanksgivings we always have at her house and she would be up cooking helping my grandma Sylvia with all the food. Whenever her grandchildren were with her she seemed happiest cause she loved each and every one of us the same. Grandma Alice is a true inspiration to me and people everywhere. I couldn't have asked for any more love and attention from her. I love and miss you Grandma<3.

There are to many words in this world that describe such a beautiful woman. But certainly the one word that comes to mind is "ANGEL". She was an Angel sent from above to enter and change many lives. She became Grandma Alice to many people. She received each and every person with open arms and lots of love. She taught many lessons and gave lots of advice, and truly lived by her words. The most valuable lesson I learned from Grandma Alice is "Forgiveness". I live by that lesson today and will continue to share that lesson throughout my life time. A lesson learned is a lifetime of change. Thank you Grandma Alice for letting me be part of your life, and letting me be part of that "ANGEL" that was sent from above to change and touch many lives!! We all love you very much and we all miss you a lot. I hope your in peace at Heaven. You were a  fantastic lady and now you are a wonderful Angel. Thank you for everything, you were always so caring. God bless you. Always remember that I love you and that you'll  always be in our hearts.

I remember every holiday that I would be receiving a card from grandma Alice. Even though she had many grandchildren and great-grandchildren she never forgot about my siblings and I. That shows true love and that will be missed from me. I will also always miss all of her stunning hats. Every time I would see her she had a beautiful hat on. The thing I will miss most about her is the warm presence I felt when she was with her. She will always be loved and missed by me.

I speak from the heart when I say this woman is a true Angel! She was a person that showed no hate, anger, or special treatment. Many times she demonstrated to me her true pure heart. I want to take a moment to speak to her up in Heaven. 

Grandma Alice.. Thank you for never forgetting me and keeping me in your heart. I was with you grandson Damian thur my most innocent years and was very fortunate to have met  you. You always showed me love and kindness. Due to life circumstances, our relationship came to an end. What surprised me is your love for me never ended. I will never forget that you treated my other daughter, that wasn't your diological granddaughter, like your own. Your sweet holiday cards always included Heavenly, Angelina, and Destiny. Now that I reflect on it, You saw me as you granddaughter too. So thru it all, I never stopped being part of your heart. Thank you!!!! I loved You and Tony so much and I am so glad that you were both part of my life. I know you will help watch over my girls and keep them from harms way. All 3 girls got one of your hats to remember you by. They will treasure them always. Once again, thank you for showing me and all my girls love.

Grandma Alice was one of the most beautiful people I had the honor of knowing. She always had a way of making you feel like one of her own. No matter the time between visits when you walked through her door you were home. She will live forever in the many hearts that she touched. She was definitely one of a kind and will be greatly missed.

My Grandma Alice was the best Grandma ever. She was always happy to see us. One time she told me that she wished she had a big house with 12 rooms, 1 room for dirty dishes and another room for the clean ones & one time I tried to trick my uncle Robbie about my birthday and Grandma said " your not 9 yet, your birthday isn't until May ... She always remembered my birthday & another time we couldn't find her in Walmart and when we did I said Grandma you were lost and she said " I wasn't lost you guys were lost" we all laughed . I have the best Grandma, I miss her all the time, every time I see colorful flowers I think about her.... I love you so much Grandma

Grandma Alice, I love you so much and one of my most memorable times together was when we went to Voo-Doo donuts. You and Aunt Sylvia can up to Oregon to visit and we decided to go to Voo-Doo donuts. When we got to the end of the line and we were picking our donuts Grandma picked the biggest one there. Something else I will ALWAYS remember is how you wouldn't ever forget to give us cards for every birthday and holiday. You will always be in my heart. Love

To Sylvia,
As far as Hero's go, you are mine. The way that you stood by your mother, cared for her, made very difficult decisions, many times on your own.  You never complained, or asked for anything in return. Your character and strength are amazing, but then again, Alice was your mother. We love you Sylvia.

My Great-Grandma was in my opinion and in everyone else's opinion that knew her as Great-Grandma Alice- was GREAT!
I'll always remember how she never forgot anyone's birthday and always made sure to give us a card for the holidays whether it was Halloween or Easter. Sometimes I wouldn't write back and I would feel guilty later because I knew no matter how busy Grandma Alice was she would make time to send us a letter. I'll always remember the fun times as little kids spending time with Grandma whether it was getting doughnuts downtown or sitting down on the couch listening to Grandma tell us stories about what it was like when she was a kid or about the store our Great-Great Grandma owned.

Grandma Alice,
You were simply the kindest,  most un-selfish, toughest person I've ever known. I will miss you very much.

Life is not something that “has” meaning – it's something we give meaning to. My mother-in-law, better known as “Grandma Alice”, gave meaning to life. Through God's love she developed the fruits of the spirit; love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Throughout her life she received God's love and demonstrated it, by loving our family and friends. 
When attending grandma's church service, pastor (Alfred De La Cerda) had given us the opportunity to share any special moments we could remember of Grandma Alice. I could not build up the courage to go in front of the church and speak. I could remember many, many special times with Grandma Alice. Oh! How I wanted to share one particular moment. However, I was too emotional. Well as often said, “Our Lord works in mysterious ways” because I now have a second opportunity to share my most life changing moments with Grandma Alice. 
I was in my late teens/early twenties, when she would invite me to bible study at Tia Ofelia's (grandma's sister) house. Unfortunately, I always managed to have some excuse not to attend. After a few weeks of being invited, I finally said “yes I will go attend bible study”. That special day I received the Holy Spirit and our Lord lives in me, in my heart. From the bottom of my heart THANK YOU Grandma Alice for giving me the best gift in life, OUR LORD AND SAVIOR!!!
Words can never express how thankful I am for Grandma Alice. She never gave up on me and gave me something that can't be taken away. Grandma thank you! 
“For God loved the world so much that he gave his only son that anyone who believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life”.

I first came to know and love Alice over 30 years ago when I was a young single mother of two small children and seeing her youngest son, Robbie. Not knowing if we would be accepted into the family I found Alice to be a very warm, sweet, loving woman who welcomed us into her family as her own and didn't treat us any different. I cannot even begin to express how much that meant to me. My children had another grandma to love along with their new little sister. They loved her Sunday after church visits, sleepovers at her house, playing board games, baking cupcakes and "helping" her with her yard sales. It was funny how they always came home from her yard sales with new found treasures they found in her boxes of knickknacks for sale. They loved her delicious enchiladas, tamales and special deliveries of her baked spaghetti. 

As the years went on and the family grew and blended I came to realize that Alice truly loved every single one of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, no matter how they came into the family ... biological, step or adopted, it didn't matter to her; she loved you unconditionally through the good and bad. Even in divorce there was no such thing as ex in-laws to her because once you were in her heart, there you remained. You were family to her no matter what. She taught us that life doesn't have to be perfect to be wonderful.

The little ones in the family were especially endearing to her and every holiday, no matter how insignificant the occasion, they each received a card along with a check especially for them which made them feel extra special because to her, they were. 

Even through life's difficulties and challenges: the heartbreaking loss of a son and serious illness she was a pillar of amazing grace and strength. Toward the end of her life she had a "dinner date" with her youngest son every Tuesday and Thursday nights after dialysis when they got to spend time together, just the two of them. I am grateful to her for leaving Robbie sweet memories he will always cherish. She was his first love and will always remain in his big heart. 

When I think of her I can see a tiny woman in a big hat with that little smile and hear her joyful laugh. She will live on in the people that loved her. You will see her in a beautiful flower, bright, twinkling stars and serene sunsets and you will feel her in the gentle breeze. I will never forget you Alice. Such an amazing, sweet, kind, gentle soul, a beautiful woman in beautiful hats. Our lives will never be the same without you and we all miss you so very much. You left this world a better place because you were in it.

Oh what a wonderful woman she IS! I say it this way because she is forever living in our hearts. The best time I had with her was at her 80th birthday FIESTA. I have never seen her so beautiful and excited in her Sunday best dress. She was so vibrant and cheerful that it amazed me on how talkative she was. It was as though she was a rambunctious 40 year old again. That day, she turned back the hands of time and was half her age. She was so radiant that day. 

Me being her sister Ofelia's son in-law, she took my heart as did my mother in-law. I have taken them both as one in the same, as my mother. I know that Tia Licha is so proud of all her family and I have been blessed to be a part of it.

We do not know the day nor the hour when we shall be called home to be with the Lord, but God's word assures us of salvation and to live in paradise with our loved ones if we obey His word. I am blessed to know that I have the assurance of seeing my loved ones again in heaven.

To Sylvia, I commend you! You have worked tirelessly in providing such selfless loving care for your mother. Your reward is going to be huge in heaven and your blessings shall be continual here on Earth.

Growing up I spent lots of summers and some special occasions at Grandma Alice's house , Grandma Alice was not my biological grandma as that was all I ever known her to be , she was grandmother to my cousin Marie Manquero-Henry . I was blessed to have known such a beautiful human being a true woman of God . I've always felt at home in the presence of the Manquero Family .

My mother shared a story of Grandma Alice  attending her baby shower when pregnant with me and said she was the only one who told her I'd be a girl . I was blessed to have Grandma Alice attend my baby shower for my first child .

I know the family's life and all those she touched will never be the same , she was an incredible woman with a big heart and warm smile. God Bless you all and may your faith see you through this difficult time .

If I could just have one more moment with my Gram Alice I would remind her of the following: 

Gram,

 My life was enriched because of you. The example you have always been in good times and in times of struggle- is always consistent. You are a person of  Integrity. Honest, faithful, thoughtful, loving, humble, hardworking; are only a few words that come to mind when I think about the values that guided you in every interaction! Since the day I was old enough to understand and appreciate those attributes, I began to truly realize how blessed I was to be your granddaughter. 

You cared for me as a child and continued to care for me into adulthood. Your gentleness in sharing wisdom and providing guidance is something I will cherish always. You are my hero! I am blessed to have you in my life. I am honored to call you my grandmother! Whether you are around strangers or close friends and family- you are always the kind genuine person that people gravitate to. Because of this you will be missed immensely. 

 Thank you for the fun times, the laughs while on vacation, the numerous chats over coffee. Thank you for loving Brian, Nick, and Josh, and never forgetting a birthday, anniversary, or holiday! I have such fond memories of our times together; from the Oregon Zoo, to visiting downtown Portland for a doughnut on the waterfront. 

 Thank you for making me feel special. Thank you Gram for loving me.  My heart aches at the thought I will never get to touch your soft hands again- at least until we meet again. I will find comfort in your favorite verse John 3:16 because I know you would not have it any other way!  I am changed because you lived; and, I am changed because you have died. I sure love you Gram.

It's been only a matter of weeks since mom has been gone, and the memories she has left us are what comforts us now. She left us with her legacy of her deep conviction of a loving God. And in the moments when she left, she left us with the last comfort she could give us, was the smile on her face.

Mom you had many trials in your life but you were unwavering in your faith. You loved us the best way you knew how and that was more than enough for us.

We will miss you mom, but are happy you are in the comforting arms of our Lord. You will no longer know pain or sorrow but only immense love. More than we could ever give you.

I first met this family through my sister, whom was the first wife to Alice's son, the late Tony Manquero.  From the first meeting until now,I can say Alice and her then husband, were very loving parents, whom in return, raised some very awesome children. All of them have their  parents caring spirit, and love for one another.  May sweet Alice RIP, she was one in a million.

In the most loving memory of Grandma Alice, please accept our deepest sympathy to her family and many friends.  Jay and I were blessed to have known Grandma Alice because she was Marie Henry's grandmother.  Even though we weren't biologically related (Marie is our daughter-in-law), we always called her Grandma Alice and she always made us feel as though we were part of her family.  When she came to Oregon we loved visiting with her.  She had a talent for always keeping the conversations interesting and lively.  I have to say we loved her chili rellenos and she fixed them special for all of us.  We loved her as part of our family, and I'm sure everyone who met her did too.  We will miss her deeply, and we are thankful for the time we got to spend with her.  She was a true treasure.
