Evelyn Wilhelmina Huth Mackay

Lifetime resident of Visalia, Evelyn W, Mackay, 101, passed away on Saturday, January 26, 2013 in Visalia. She was a homemaker. Evelyn was born in Visalia, California on April 27, 1911 to Charles and Tilly Huth. She graduated from Visalia Union High School and also graduated 4’C’s Business College in Fresno, California. While attending college, Evelyn met the love of her life, Arthur Mackay and they were married in Fresno on June 20, 1936. Arthur and Evelyn made their first home in Tulare, California. They moved to her parent’s family farm in Visalia where they raised their family. She worked as the Secretary at Coberly-West and Producer’s Cotton Gins in Visalia during the very busy cotton season where Arthur was the manager. He preceded her in death on February 8, 1981. Evelyn loved decorating and interior design, sewing, needlework and cooking. Her family had a delicious dessert every evening made by her loving hands. She was a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church of Visalia. Her activities included, being a 50 year member of the Martha Washington Order of the Eastern Star. As her daughters were growing up, she was active in the PTA, Brownies, Girl Scouts, and Rainbow Girls. Evelyn was a member of the Pink Ladies Auxiliary and Tulare County Cotton Wives. She also was active in the AFS, working with exchange students and hosted a student from Austria. Evelyn’s greatest enjoyment was her family and the times spent together. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. Evelyn is survived by three daughters, Judy Halstead (David) of San Jose, CA, Sue Savage (Stoney) of Visalia, CA and Marian Bennett (Mel) of Manderson, WY; eight grandchildren Carrie Randles, Randy Halstead, Evonne Goodwin, Stoney Savage, Jr., Sandra Garza, Marc Bennett, Chisum Bennett and Heather Rollema; eleven great grandchildren, Cameron, Trenton, Stoney J., Sienna, Caleb, Jacob, Joshua, Dane, Trae Karys, Kyston and one on the way; two brothers and one sister. Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 31, 2013 from 3 – 8 pm at Miller Memorial Chapel, 1120 W. Goshen Avenue in Visalia, California. Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 1, 2013 at 1 pm at Miller Memorial Chapel followed by burial at Visalia District Cemetery. A Great Lady. Mrs. Mackay was the best Brownie Leader in the whole world. I remember the sleep over at your home where we played "table up table" and ate Scottish Scones. Sincere condolences to you Judy and your family and friends on the passing away of your Mother. Her life was well lived and a testimony of her giving spirit. My mind and heart are still filled with all the wonderful memories of my years in Rainbow Girls with her as Mother Adviser. Thank you for sharing her with us.
