After many years of working in agriculture, Felipe spent more than 20 years in construction. He built his own home in Woodlake and helped many of his neighbors build their homes through the Self-Help program. His hard work also contributed to the construction of many homes throughout Tulare and Kern Counties.
Felipe was married for more than 50 years to his devoted wife, Sara Haro Ibarra, who preceded him in death in 2009. Together, they built a loving family and a lasting legacy.
He was the proud father of eight children: Jimmy Ibarra, Anna Castillo, Miguel Ibarra, Berta Diebert, Alicia Venegas, Elvira Ibarra, Emerita Ibarra, who preceded him in death, and Maricela Contreras. His family legacy includes 14 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren.
Those who knew Felipe may especially remember the sound of his whistling. He worked very hard and always whistled while he worked. His whistling became so familiar that many people could hear him coming before they saw him
Felipe also loved playing cards. For decades, he looked forward to gathering every Sunday after church with his “poker club,” which included his compadres and best friends. These gatherings reflected the friendships and traditions that brought him joy throughout his life.
Felipe leaves behind a lasting legacy through the family he loved, the friendships he treasured, the homes he helped build, and the many lives touched by his strength and hard work.
