Gregorio “Greg” Moreno, age 85, passed away on Saturday, June 18, 2022, in Visalia, California. Greg was born in Midland, Texas, on May 17, 1937, to the late Gregorio and Maria Candida Facundo Moreno. He was raised by his grandparents and served in the US Navy. He married Maria Teresa Leyva of El Paso, Texas on December 9, 1961. In 1965 they moved their family to Visalia where they raised their five children. Greg was a Letter Carrier for the US Postal Service and retired in 1994. He was affectionately known as “Sunshine” to many of his customers. He taught his kids the importance of caring for the community, especially those that were homebound or didn’t have family nearby. Every Thanksgiving and Christmas he and his wife would prepare and take holiday meals to his elderly customers. He was a huge fan of Tejano (Tex-Mex) music and enjoyed trips to Laughlin and San Francisco to watch his favorite baseball team, the San Francisco Giants.
Greg is preceded by death by his wife Teresa of 33 years, and their son, Anthony Moreno. He is survived by his children, Carlos Leyva Moreno, MD, Barbara Owens, Melissa Moreno, Greg Moreno, and his seven grandchildren, Gregory Moreno, Miguel Moreno, Ben, Nate, and Alesia Castaniero, Isabella and Evan Moreno and two great-grandchildren, Gabriel Moreno and Noah Castaniero.
A visitation for Greg will be held on Thursday, June 30, 2022 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Miller Memorial Chapel, 1120 West Goshen Avenue, Visalia, California. A Funeral Service will occur Friday, July 1, 2022 at 10:30 AM at Miller Memorial Chapel. Greg will be laid to rest in Visalia Public Cemetery, 1300 West Goshen Avenue, Visalia, California. A Celebration of Life will be held at Miller Memorial Chapel immediately following the graveside services.
