Lilia was born to Bias Flores and Jesusita Calanchi Flores in Carlsbad, New Mexico and the family later moved to Visalia, California. She had a joyful disposition and lived a simple life in Visalia. She worked as a housekeeper, enjoyed tending to her roses and attended St. Mary's Catholic Church. What many people didn't know was that while Lilia was married to WWII war hero Alejandro R. Ruiz they traveled throughout the United States and to Japan together. She had the opportunity to meet with many U.S. presidents, high ranking military and government officials, American and Japanese war heroes and Hollywood entertainers. She attended many presidential inaugurations and numerous veteran's events. Lilia would casually say, "Bob Hope was so funny at dinner', "President Carter is really nice", "Mrs. (Rosalynn) Carter is so beautiful" and "I met Ronald Reagan!" She and Alejandro even survived hurricane Iniki on the island of Kauai in Hawaii. She always handled her life with modesty, levity and grace. Lilia was the last living child of the Flores family, she will be remembered for her sense of humor, never ending energy and warm heartedness.
