Our matriarch. Our cornerstone. Our beloved mother and grandmother Lucy Leos Montes passed away peacefully on December 29, 2016. She was born in Chicago, Illinois on April 4, 1931. Lucy was the fourth child of eleven born to Ollie Stamper and Marcos Leos. After leaving Chicago, she spent some time in Carlsbad, New Mexico before settling in Visalia, California. Lucy was a devoted homemaker who single-handedly raised her nine children. Lucy will be fondly remembered for her love of dancing, Vicente Fernandez’s music, gardening, cooking, crocheting. Above all other hobbies, she loved seeing her family and spending time barbequing with them in her backyard, which was lovingly referred to as, “Granny’s Park”. She was always waiting with a warm hug, funny joke, and stern word if needed. Lucy is survived by her children, Esther Holguin, Delores Fernandez, Carlos Montes, Jesus Montes, Frances Cantu, Edmundo Montes, Ray Renteria, Cecilia Sandoval, and Daniel Herrera; brother, Willie Leos; sister, Virginia Vigil; sister Lola Sanchez; brother Pasqual Leos, and sister, Isabel Martinez; thirty-one grandkids, fifty-one great grandkids, seven great-great grandkids, and numerous other family members and friends. Lucy will be greatly missed by all who loved and knew her.
