Luella was born on May 13, 1930 to Edwin and Katherine Wollman in Frankfort, South Dakota. As a young girl, she took piano lessons and became an accomplished pianist and an eventual organist. As well as playing piano, she was a soprano in multiple choirs throughout her adult life, sharing this joy of music with her husband, Bob. They sang many duets together over the years, both in church and publicly.
Luella met Robert (Bob) Warkentin while at Tabor College and they married in 1956. Bob passed away in 2007. In 1955, she graduated Tabor College in Hillsboro, Kansas. Following graduation, she became a teacher. She started her teaching career in a one room school house in South Dakota and retired in1987 from Mt. View School in Visalia.
Church was an integral part of her life. While attending First Presbyterian Church in Visalia, she served as a deacon, Stephen’s Minister, choir member and organist. She was a member of the Visalia Assistance League and PEO Sisterhood Chapter RE.
She is preceded in death by her husband Robert (Bob) Warkentin and her brother Harvey Wollman (Ann). She survived by her brothers Roger Wollman (Diane), Dwight Wollman (Shari), and sister Jeanie Peters (Alan) and her children Loren Warkentin (Stevi), Mark Warkentin (Hanna), Clarice Milanesi (Mike), and Carolyn Kim (John). Luella loved her 8 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
A visitation will be held at Miller Memorial Chapel in Visalia at 4PM on April 28th. Burial is April 29th at 9 AM Visalia Cemetery, followed by a celebration of life at First Presbyterian Church at 10 AM
