Mary Anduri was born in Fresno, California to William Starns and Edna Benn Starns. She died peacefully in Danville, California on April 6.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Carl Anduri, in 1996. She is survived by her three children – Carl E. Anduri, Jr. and wife Sharon of Lafayette, David Anduri and wife Patti of Irvine, Marilu Blau and husband Jeff of Pleasanton. She has six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
After graduation from Fresno State College in 1942 with a BA degree and a teaching credential, she taught first and second grade for a year in Elderwood before leaving for New Haven, Connecticut, where she and Carl were married on October 2, 1943. After the war ended, they lived in Fresno while Carl finished his BA degree and then moved to Woodlake where Carl taught at Woodlake High School. The family lived in Woodlake until moving to Visalia in 1960.
Mary returned to teaching full-time in 1958, teaching third grade in Farmersville and then at Royal Oaks in Visalia until her retirement in 1977.
Mary was active in the Woodlake Presbyterian Church and the First Baptist Church of Visalia. An avid gardener, she was a 50-year charter member of the Camellia Circle Garden Club in Woodlake.
Mary moved to Rossmoor in Walnut Creek in 2002 and then to Danville in 2009.
Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Miller Memorial Chapel in Visalia. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, April 13 at the Woodlake Cemetery.
