

Mary was born in Ribeira Seca Sao Jorge, Azores on June 27, 1921 to Francisco Machado Da Silva and Maria Borba Da Silva Da Silva. She came to the United States, settling in San Rafael, California in 1951 and then moved to Visalia in 1970. Mary owned and operated Silva’s Board and Care from 1970 to 2007 when she retired. She was a longtime member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Visalia. Mary enjoyed cooking, gardening and spending time with her friends. She was a very strong lady who enjoyed helping others.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Francisco Machada Da Silva and Maria Borba Da Silva; one brother, Antonio Borba Da Silva; one sister, Maria Felismina Da Silva; and her nephew/Godson, Fernando Jose Silva.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her sister, Maria Isaura Bentaberry and husband, Jean of France; her niece, Maria Silva of Oakley, CA; great niece, Jennifer Doolittle; great nephew, Christopher Silva; great great nephew – Hudson Joseph Doolittle; Goddaughter, Amalia, caretaker and very dear friend, Mary Jackson; and other very dear friends and family, Pat Olmos, Geri Cullum, Jana Cullum Bettencourt , Jason Cullum and many others.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks and gratitude for the tender loving care provided by the nursing staff on the third floor of Kaweah Delta District Hospital.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 20, 2015 from 4 – 6 p.m. with Recitation of Holy Rosary at 6 p.m. at Miller Memorial Chapel, 1120 W. Goshen Ave in Visalia. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at on Wednesday, January 21, 2015 at 10:30 am at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 608 N. Church in Visalia, CA. Burial will follow at Visalia District Cemetery.
