Mayme Borges Gott was born on May 14, 1922 to Joseph and Rita Borges in Sanger, California. Her loving family lost their angel to Heaven on December 9, 2021 at the age of 99, just 5 months short of achieving her goal of reaching 100.
Mayme is survived by her loving daughter, Carol Andrade Castelo, her bother Les Borges (Lorraine); her grandchildren Donnette Silva-Carter (Joe), Lisa Majarian (Paul); Joey Martin (Debbie); Jeanette Ferreira (Ray); Sharlene Jumper; Alvin Castelo (Julie); Lolia McFadden (Dave), and Lun Castelo. She is also survived by 13 great grandchildren and 6 great, great grandchildren, along with 8 God-daughters. Mayme was predeceased by her parents, her husband Lloyd Gott, and her daughter Judith Andrade Kirkwood.
Mayme married Lloyd Loren Gott in Las Vegas in 1967. Together they owned Lloyd’s Place in Ivanhoe and also farmed citrus, being proud members of the Sunkist Growers Association. Mayme retired from working at the Tulare County Courthouse in the County Clerk’s Office. She enjoyed her interaction with residents throughout the county. After retirement, she went on to serve multiple terms on the Tulare County Grand Jury. A talented seamstress, Mayme and her mother owned Terry Mae Dress Shop. She continued to find time to sew and create up until the time of her death. Mayme was very proud of her ability to sew for family and friends, and it brought her joy to do so. Mayme also loved gifting family and friends with homemade Filho’s, rice pudding and Portuguese Sweet Bread. Something that people looked forward to each year.
She was a very proud member of many Portuguese Societies and organizations in which she held multiple offices over the years. She was a 75-year member of SPRSI and at her death was the longest living charter member of the Cabrillo Club of Tulare County. In PFSA, she was awarded Lifetime Honorary Council Director for her outstanding service and dedication to the Tulare #46 Council. She was also a member of SES, IDES, Luso, UPPEC and Brotherhood of St. Anthony.
Mayme’s favorite involvement was her affiliation with the St. Anthony’s Portuguese Celebration of Pismo Beach. This was due to her admiration of the Patron Saint and forever love of the beach.
She will always be remembered for her beautiful smile and fierce love of family. Being involved in the lives of her brother, children and grandchildren brought her great joy. She was always their greatest cheerleader at events and activities. Mayme was always ready for a trip to beach or a casino. Those were her happy places.
