Mildred Sophie Schmidt

Mildred Sophie Schmidt of Visalia passed away Monday, May 1, 2017. Mildred -- also known as "Millie" to her many friends, "Mileva" to her Serbian relatives, and "Maga" to her beloved grandchildren -- was born August 12, 1930 to the late Bozidar ("Bob") Mihich and Sophia Mrkaich. Millie graduated from Madera Union High School in 1948. For many years Millie worked as a housewife and mother. Then, after her children were grown, she worked as an administrative assistant at Kroger Foods, and for decades, as manager/sales clerk at See's Candies, where she impressed customers with her uncanny resemblance to Mary See.

Mildred's mission in life was loving and caring for her large family, who were always first in her life. She is predeceased by her husband J. Fred Schmidt, brother Sava ("Sam") Mihich and son John P. Schmidt. She is survived by her sister Ilinka Meglemre and family, and sister-in-law Alma Mihich; her children: Kristine Schmidt (Bob Molloy), Terry Schmidt, Lisa Turner, Gretchen Weaver (Marty Weaver) and Jeff Schmidt (Pam Schmidt); and her beloved grandchildren: Lily Schmidt Towers, Shannon Weaver, Heidi Schmidt Budlong, Matthew Schmidt Kong, Roxanne Griffin, Sheila Turner, Aaron Weaver, Tommy Reid, Nicholas Schmidt, Hannah Schmidt, Sophia Schmidt, and families.

Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, May 9, 2017 at 10:00 a.m., Arbor Vitae Cemetery, Madera, California; followed by a reception at 4:00 p.m. in Visalia, California -- please call (559) 627-3464 for the location.
