Nickolas was born on May 3, 1937 in Walden Township, Minnesota to Nick and Catherine Ver Steeg, one of three boys and nine girls.
On April 5, 1963, he wed Wijnanda den Hoed, and together they raised 5 children, 11 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren. Through all of this, they remained a wonderful example of marriage till the day he passed.
Nick was dedicated to working hard, as a mechanic, repairman, or any combination in between. He loved fishing, woodworking, and just fixing things. He was best known for his quiet disposition, making his few words count. He had strong convictions, mostly for his family, and his Christian faith. He loved his grandchildren dearly, and was often seen on the floor playing with them, or sharing his recliner. For those that got to know him, his smile and laugh were infectious, even through his last days, when his body struggled to move correctly, his smile would light up the darkest of rooms.
He is preceded in death by his parents Nick and Catherine, his brother Gerrit, and his sister Johanna. Nick is survived by his wife Wijnanda, children; Nik(Shelley)Utah, Kevin(Patti)Az., Nancy Reichert(Alex)Ca, Kenneth(Tami)Ca, Rodney(Donja)In;. grandchildren; River, Joshua, Madison, Nikolas, Krystal, Meagan, Matthew, Heidi, Victoria, Jordan, and Rashelle, great grandkids; Kennedy, Annabell, Addalynn.
