Norma J. Barton

Norma J. Barton was born on January 22, 1931 in Lone Wolf, Oklahoma, and passed away on February 16, 2021 in Visalia, Calif.

In the 1950s, Norma worked as an usher at Visalia’s Fox Theater, and later worked at Westinghouse until she retired. Norma and her husband, Chuck, were long-time members of Sierra Baptist Church and the Visalia Elk’s Lodge. Norma loved adventures, and especially enjoyed their RV trips with the Elk’s Vagabond Club. She also spent much of her free time making fun memories with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Norma was preceded in death by her parents, Virgil and Thelma Sunderland; her daughter, Debbie Hammer; her son Danny Hammer; and her sister, Venita Sunderland. She is survived by her husband of nearly 40 years, Chuck Barton of Visalia, Calif.; her four grandchildren: Stephanie Bryant, Lesley, Bryant, Chris Widener and Hayden Hammer, all of Visalia, Calif; her sister, Glenna Younie (Pete); five great-grandchildren; and numerous extended family members.

A Visitation will be held on Monday, March 1, 2021 from 4:30 pm to 6:00 pm at Miller Memorial Chapel, 1120 W. Goshen Ave., Visalia. Funeral Services will be held at 9 am on Tuesday, March 2, 2021 at Miller Memorial Chapel, followed by Commital Service at 10:30 am at Visalia Public Cemetery, 1300 W. Goshen Ave., Visalia.

In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to the Sierra Baptist Church’s Youth Program in memory of Norma Barton.

I meet Norma I was dating her son Danny Hammer, she took me and my daughter Brittney into her family, there aren't enough words to describe how loving, compassionate full of joy, never judgemental , Norma was more to me than my mother in law, she was like a mother to me, my heart breaks, she was an awesome grandmother,mother, and friend...
