

Richard was born in Monterey Park, California on September 25, 1943 to loving parents, Jack Christy and June Christy. His family moved to Visalia when he was very small and Richard attended Visalia schools, graduating from Mt. Whitney High School in 1961. He received his Associate of Arts degree from College of Sequoia. Richard served in the National Guard for six years. He moved to Compton, California in 1965 to work for Southern California Edison Company and over the years worked in Long Beach, Santa Ana, Alhambra and retired from SCE in Tulare in 1996. On August 29, 1969 he married the love of his life, Paula Elaine Lawrence in Las Vegas, Nevada. He attended Visalia First Assembly of God Church. Richard enjoyed golfing, farming walnuts on the family’s ranch in Exeter and going to Pismo and Avila Beaches. Richard most enjoyed being a member of the Vapor Trailers Car Club and attending car shows with his 1930 Model A Street Rod. He attended and displayed his car at the different car shows in the valley and at the coast. He also enjoyed football and was a diehard Rams fan. Richard will be greatly missed by his family and by all that knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Jack.
The family would like to thank Dr. Bryson and his wonderful staff for the excellent care they provided Richard.
Richard leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 44 years, Paula of Visalia; his daughter, Emma Lowe of Visalia; his daughter Kerrin Duncan of Rochester, Minnesota and her daughters, Caylie, Alexie and Chloie; his brother, Mike Christy of Jacksonville Beach, FL; his sister, Suzanne Shaw (Don) of San Juan Capistrano, CA; numerous nieces, nephews and many friends. Richard also leaves his beloved cat, Oliver Braxton Christy who brightened many of the days during his illness.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 28, 2014 at 10 a.m. at Miller Memorial Chapel, 1120 W. Goshen Avenue in Visalia, California. Burial will follow at Visalia District Cemetery.
