

He was born on June 11, 1948 to Felicita and Juan Garza in San Antonio, Texas. He was the sixth of fifteen siblings.
When Robert was a young boy his family moved to California and eventually settled in Farmersville. To help his family, Robert picked cotton, shined shoes, and peeled potatoes at local diners. Some of his fondest childhood memories were playing “Ditch ‘em” in the walnut orchards with his best friend Joe.
He married his beloved Irene Arechiga “Huera” in 1973. They were married for 50 years. He found a strong and devoted companion in his marriage to Irene.
Robert was a licensed welder at Butler Manufacturing for 29 years. Robert was also considered the family “handyman” and was frequently called upon by his relatives for various repair jobs such as plumbing, carpentry and yard work.
Robert’s interests included bike riding, walking, and weight lifting. He was an avid boxing fan and some of his favorite boxers were Roberto Duran, Joe Frazier, and Pipino Cuevas. He also enjoyed going to the flea market and spending time at the casino. Robert had a real appreciation for classic cars and in his lifetime bought and sold many.
After retirement, Robert enjoyed sitting outdoors drinking coffee and chatting with neighbors. Above all, Robert cherished time spent with his wife, kids, and grandkids. He will always be remembered for his great sense of humor and being an amazing Dad and Grandpa!
Robert is survived by his wife Irene Garza; daughter Irma Rodriguez, son-in-law Keith, grandchildren Ethan, Quinten and Lea Rodriguez; son Robert Jacob Garza; son Martin Arechiga Garza, daughter-in-law Kathy, and grandchildren Allison, Emily, Ezekiel, and Gabriel Garza.
A Memorial Mass for Robert will be held Friday, December 1, 2023 at 10:30 AM at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 608 North Church Street, Visalia, CA 93291. Following the memorial service will be an inurnment at 12:00 PM at Visalia Public Cemetery District, 1300 West Goshen Avenue, Visalia, CA 93291.
