Sabina Quijas Ybarra was born on August 29, 1935 in Leon Guanajuato, in a small ranch called Los Lopez to Jose Luz and Soledad Quijas. Sabina had eight siblings: Mary Q. Garcia, Blanca Q. Osorio, Ana Q. Ramires, Dolores Q. Beltran, Juan M. Quijas as well as Jose Quijas, Raquel Q. Moreno and Casimira Q. Martinez. The family moved from Los Lopez to Mexicali, Baja California, where Sabina lived until she crossed the border into California about the age of 13. She made her way to Farmersville to live with her grandparents, aunts, and uncles.
On July 26, 1954 Sabina married her loving husband Daniel Ybarra of 31 years in Mexicali, Baja California, then made their home in Farmersville, Ca. The couple had three children: George Ybarra, Cecilia Lopez (Frank), Ronald Ybarra (Eva). She had six grandchildren: Isaac Ybarra (Maribel), Carly Smith (Cliff), Andrew Lopez (Ciara), Sabina Souza (Todd), Jessica Holmes (Travis), Daniel Ybarra, Antonio Ybarra, and five great-grandchildren: Logan Smith, Emily Smith, Tyler Lopez, Atlas Holmes and Jack Souza.
Sabina was an amazing wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend. She was caring, loving, generous, hardworking, intelligent, funny, strong willed, and a well-respected woman. Sabina usually thought of others before herself; she lived by example, that being humble and helping others was the way to live life. Sabina completed the eighth grade then began to work as a farm laborer. She enjoyed her job because she liked being out in nature although, she would say that harvesting crops was brutal and back breaking and stressed the importance of education. She retired as Farm Labor Contractor.
Sabina hobbies were being outdoors attending to her trees and flowers, learning how to crochet, needle work, watching old movies, going to Dodger games, completing word finder books, reading and discussing the Bible with friends, and watching and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Sabina was called to be with our Lord February 21, 2023. She was at home surrounded by her family and loved ones. She is preceded in death by her beloved father, mother, husband Daniel, brother Jose Quijas, Sister Raquel Moreno and Sister Casimira Martinez.
It's difficult to imagine mom not being with us and she will deeply be missed. She touched our hearts and her memory will always be with us.
The family would like to thank the Kaweah Delta Hospice staff and Dr. Laurie Hagopian-Dresser.
