Sondra Lee Applegate

June 16th 1943 – March 15th 2016

Sondra Lee Applegate was born in Stockton California on June 16th 1943 to her parents Bud and Anna Engan. She graduated from Fresno High School in 1961 and later attended Fresno State University. While in high school, she met the love of her life Walter “Jimmy” Applegate and the two were later married on March 20th 1965. They soon moved to Visalia, California where they established a home and decided to start a family. The two later gave birth to their two sons, Derrick J. Applegate and Chad L. Applegate. Sandi and Walt continued to build their family business, Mel’s Beauty Supply, over many years before retiring in 2008. During this time Sandi was also involved in many community organizations such as the Visalia Charter Oak Lions Club, and contributed to numerous charitable causes for which she took great pride in making her community a better pace for all.

Sandi was preceded in death by her mother Anna M. Chrisman, her stepfather Neil M. Chrisman and her brother Orrin Chrisman. She is survived by her loving husband of 51 years, Walter J. Applegate, her son Derrick J. Applegate, his wife Anita M. Applegate and children Landon C. Applegate and Avery F. Applegate of Long Beach California, as well as her son Chad L. Applegate, his wife Stephanie L. Applegate and children Jacob A. Applegate, Ellie E. Applegate and Travis M. Applegate of Visalia California. Sandi is also survived by her sister-in-law Helen Chrisman and the families of her nephews Orrin Chrisman Jr., Gerry Turner, and her nieces Heidi Stewart and Deborah Dias.

Funeral Services will be held Monday, March 21, 2016 at 10:00 am at Miller Memorial Chapel, 1120 W. Goshen Avenue in Visalia California, followed by burial at Visalia Public Cemetery.
