Vera Leaton Franco

The former Vera Leaton married Matt Franco on Dec 16,1952 in Carlsbad, New Mexico. Matt was in the Air Force when Vera met him, together they moved to Denver, Colorado, then Matt was deployed to Greenland. Vera got her credentials for being a registered nurse in Houston, Texas and later in life she was a homemaker. Vera was a member of Jehovah’s Witness Kingdom Hall in Visalia, California. She was involved in the Mountain Mule Mama’s group. With the Mountain Mama’s she would travel with a group of women by horseback up into the mountains for bible study in a peaceful setting. Vera was always a very outgoing, playful, fun, and kind spirited woman.

Vera preceded loved ones in death; her husband Matt Franco, sons Daniel Franco and Ruben V. Franco, 2 sisters Elva Campos of Visalia, Cecilia of Stockton, California and 2 brothers Eddie Leaton of Carlsbad, New Mexico, Bill Leaton of Albuquerque, New Mexico. Vera's survivors include her daughter Yvonne Cochran and her husband James, daughter-in-law Sherry Franco, 8 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, one brother Richard Leaton of Artesia, New Mexico, her sister in law Martha and husband Richard Leaton, and many nieces and nephews.

She will be missed dearly by all her surviving family and friends, plus all the staff members at Visalia Post Acute nursing care facility. A burial service will be held in Twin Oaks Cemetery in Artesia, New Mexico where Vera will be interred with her mother, Eduarda Leaton.
