

Betty Jean Sullivan was a very dedicated mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister. She departed this life in the comfort of her home surrounded by her family in the early morning on January 18, 2022 at age 82.
She was born to Earl Edwin Alewine and Margaret Elizabeth Howell on November 9, 1939. She was a beloved wife to the late Otis Gordon Sullivan, Jr. for 42 years and remained in their home until her death. Betty Jean worked in the Olympia textile mills and retired from Baptist Hospital.
Betty Jean is survived by her children, Otis Gordon Sullivan III, Troddy Sullivan (Gail), Patrick Sullivan (Thiphakhinh), and Stacy Taylor (Glenn). Grandchildren are Jason Willis, Jessica Williams, Lily Taylor, Abigail Taylor, and Phelan Sullivan. Great-grandchildren include Wesley Willis, Kyler Williams, Samantha Williams, Gavin Williams, and London Elliott. Also surviving are her brothers, Lewis Alewine (Betty) of Lexington, Barney Alewine (Rosemary) of Wisconsin; sisters, Elizabeth Hunt (Paul) of Cayce, Margaret Johnson (Thomas) of West Columbia, as well as many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her husband; her brothers, Edgar Alewine and Steve Alewine and sister, Mary Kinney.
A graveside service will be held at 2:30 pm on Tuesday, January 25, 2022 at Southland Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 2:15 pm prior to the service at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, West Columbia Chapel.
