Bobbie Jean Coursey Futch, 80, entered into eternal rest on June 11, 2026. Born February 10, 1946, in Metter, Georgia, she was the daughter of the late William Asbury Coursey and Claudia Kemp Coursey. Bobbie Jean lived in Lexington, South Carolina.
She graduated from Richmond Academy in Augusta, Georgia, and studied interior design at The University of South Carolina. After permanently moving to Columbia, South Carolina, she worked at Ford Motor Credit and Johnson Controls before, in 1975, opening The Music Store, Inc. on Devine Street with her late husband of 48 years, John D. Futch Jr. Her life reflected steady dedication and a thoughtful sense of purpose, expressed through the work she pursued and the community she helped build alongside those she loved.
Bobbie Jean was a member of First Presbyterian Church. She also gave generously of her time as a past board member at Town Theatre, and through volunteer service with Columbia Lyric Opera and the Columbia Music Festival Association. Her appreciation for the arts and for excellence was evident in the ways she stayed involved—whether enjoying tennis, playing the piano, or serving as a judge for beauty pageants.
She is survived by her son, John D. “Trip” Futch III; daughter-in-law, Torey Futch; granddaughters, McKenzie Dixon, Zoey Futch, and Alivia Futch; great-grandchildren, Rhett Dixon and Millie Dixon; and sisters, Colleen Price of North Augusta, South Carolina, and Dot Youngblood of Jacksonville, Florida.
A Graveside Service will be held at 11:00 am on June 23, 2026, at Southland Memorial Gardens, 700 W. Dunbar Rd, W. Columbia, South Carolina 29170, US.
