Cecelia Lucretia McCarty passed away peacefully at home on March 13, 2026 and now is in the presence of her Lord and Savior. Her husband of 60 years, Robert Lane McCarty, lovingly took care of Lucretia, especially when her health was declining. She was born in Horry County, SC on March 18, 1938 to her late parents, Sam Grier Watts and Martha Grace Rhodes Watts.
Lucretia grew up on a farm in Horry County where she and her siblings helped with the crops and various chores. She left Loris and moved to Columbia, SC where her two older brothers, Billy and Ken, were settled with their families. It wasn’t long before she met Lane and they were married. Lucretia was loved by everyone she met. Family was so dear to her. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Lucretia and Lane always had a big garden. You could count on their preserved fruits and vegetables being part of their meals throughout the years. Lucretia was a great cook and also an avid gardener. Her yard was always beautiful. She knew how to make plants grow and thrive.
Before she was no longer able to, Lucretia was an active member of Northside Baptist Church where she was a member of Life Group “Lovers of Christ.”
In addition to her parents, Lucretia was predeceased by brothers, William O. Watts, Kenneth S. Watts (Jean), Johnny G. Watts (Alvida) and Daniel G. Watts (Cheryl).
She is survived by brother, Rayford W. Watts (Bethel); sister, Dianne W. Vaught (Dewey); son, Mark McCarty (Christa); grandchildren, Kendall McCarty (Caitlin), Matthew McCarty (Lindsey) and Kayla McCarty; and great-grandchildren, Carsyn, Lakyn, and Cecelia Anne.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, March 19th, 2026 at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home – West Columbia Chapel of Hope, 820 West Dunbar Road, West Columbia, SC 29072. The family will receive friends following the service.
