CAYCE – Charles Vinson Harper, Jr., son of the late Vinson Harper and Helen Bush Harper went home to be with his God on Monday, March 18, 2013. Charles was the husband to his wife, Patsy for 50 years. Together they had three sons, Tommy (Chris) Harper of Roswell, GA, Johnny (Julia) Harper of Cayce, SC, Ronnie Harper of Cayce, SC. From his three sons came his pride and joy, Jesse, Vince, Alex, Brittany, his princess and brother-in-law, Ray Archibald and wife, Ann. He was predeceased by grandson, Jake. He was a proud father and grandfather! In his time on this earth, he spent a lot of time coaching young boys in baseball. He did this over 30 years starting in Eau Claire in the early 60’s and finishing in Cayce at Bray Park. He was proud of his teams.
His second love was playing golf with his buddies, George, Fred, Carlton and the Monday morning group at White Pines. He also enjoyed playing with his special friend Coach Les Evans who he thought he could beat single handed. Along with his coaching he kept the time clock for Brookland Cayce High School from 1975 to 1985 while his boys played on Friday nights. After they finished school he went on to keep the time clock for Airport High from 1987 until 2011 at this time his health prevented him from continuing but he still went to all Airport home games. He loved his eagles, the coaches and players would wave and throw him kisses, his entire chest would poke out. His wife, Patsy coached the Airport High School bowling team and the kids made him their “Pa” and mascot. He even got to go to the first match this year. He will truly be missed by them.
Charles worked in the tire industry for the past 35 years as a big truck tire salesman. His job allowed him to meet many people and make loads of friends along the way. He loved his job and making friends.
The most important thing in Charles’s life was he gave his heart to God and became a Christian at River Bluff Baptist Church eight years ago. He loved his God and he would tell you pretty quick – “I am ready are you?” Once he became a Christian, he loved to let people know. Just last week he told that he had met with God and his time was short, He was ready.
Charles will be missed by his family, friends and all that he touched in his life; but, he also leaves 3 of his most “precious boys”, his dog, Buddy, our dog, Happy and the family cat, Tom. These boys brought him much love laying around on him.
