Charles Lee “Chuck” Richards passed away Tuesday, May 29, 2018. He was born to the late Lee Owen and Peggy Laverne Woodley Richards on April 27, 1931 in St. Louis, MO. Chuck was a member of Springvale Baptist Church in Lugoff. Chuck spent a total of 20 years in the United States Army. He was one of the drill instructors that helped start the Army’s first Drill Sergeant Program at Fort Jackson. Chuck loved golfing and spending time with his fellow masons at Fort Jackson Masonic Lodge. In his late twenties he became very close to Patricia Lilly and her family. Chuck is survived by his fiancée, Patricia Lilly; Son, Alpod Williams and Steven D Richards; Daughter, Cynthia Lee Martin and Latonia Lynn Graham; Step son, Bryan Lilly; Step Daughter, Teresa Posey and Mary Fox; 8 Grandchildren, 5 Great Grandchildren and 8 Step Grandchildren and Great Grand Children. He is predeceased by his wife of thirty four years, Shirley Dean Brooks Richards; son, Mark W. Richards; Step son, Curtis Lilly Jr.; and step daughter, Sandra Johnson. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 31, 2018 at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home West Columbia Chapel. Funeral Services with Military Honors will be held at 2:00pm on Friday, June 1, 2018 at the Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Todd Horton will be officiating.
