Daniel Marshal Paige, 92, was born October 18, 1927 in Philadelphia, Mississippi, and passed away at home during the early morning hours of Tuesday, September 29, 2020. He was the son of the late Ivan and Esther Daniels Paige and became a young man under the guidance of his grandmother, Mary Hellen Daniels.
Dan served our country in the United States Navy, Army Air Corps and finally retired from the United States Air Force August 6, 1966. Most of that time was served as with the Military Police. He then served as Investigator and Assistant Police Chief of Crestview, Florida before ultimately retiring to be closer to his daughters in 1976.
As a young serviceman, Dan met the love of his life, Margaret “Peggy”, in 1946 in Fayetteville, North Carolina while walking to the Post Office. He promised to mail a letter for her to a young man serving at the time. Luckily, the letter was never sent, he secured his bride and the best woman for the job. To say he was a handful would be selling him short. He was the best.
Dan was a devoted father and grandfather, and never met a stranger. He fiercely loved God, his family and the United States of America. He had a strong will, but was always ready with a kind word or hand when someone was in need. He is deeply loved. We know he will be waiting at the front of the line to dole out the hugs when we see him again.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret Currie Paige; children, Peggy P. Sox (Charlie), James M. Paige (Lee), Bobby J. Paige (Beth), Mary P. Marschalk (John); son-in-law, S. Dewitt Ricard; grandchildren, Chuck Sox (Kay), Dan Sox, Mikell Paige (Youngju), John Paige, Joe Paige, Malissa Ricard (Aaron), Stan Ricard, Daniel Paige (Maribel), Riley Marschalk; eight great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandson, daughters-in-love Teresa Ricard Haltiwanger (Hank), Linda Williams (Ben) and brother Tommy Lee Paige.
He was predeceased by his grandmother, mother, father, three sisters, two brothers and his precious daughter, Margaret Ann Ricard.
The family specially thanks Navias Freeman and Cyndi Ryker for their loving friendship and care over the years.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 3, 2020 at Southland Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. A very brief visitation will immediately follow.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or The Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation.
